Since its announcement, Google’s AI chatbot ‘Bard’ has been swept up in controversy. Ahead of its unveiling, an official advert described Bard as a search tool to "help simplify complex topics.” However, that same ad sparked bucket loads of criticism for the new Google product after observers spotted that it produced factually incorrect information about the discovery of planets beyond our solar system. In the aftermath, Google’s parent company Alphabet lost out on $100 billion in market value due to the mistake.
But it’s not all bad news for Bard. It turns out that the AI bot could be a huge help to the creatives among us. After all, the Oxford definition of a ‘bard’ is, “a poet, traditionally one reciting epics and associated with a particular oral tradition.” The good news is that Bard absolutely does not live up to this definition.

The 3 Ways Google’s Bard AI will Help Us Become More Creative

1. Bard AI will be devoid of any emotion

As with other AIs, Bard AI will not be able to FEEL anything. Bard AI will be the digital equivalent of the Wizard of Oz’ Tin Man who has no heart. As emotional beings, we will still have a monopoly on being able to use our feelings to create. Those of us who can channel our emotions into creation will only further stand out in the age of AI.

2. Bard AI will inevitably hold the biases and views of its creators

It’s been proven countless times that Bard’s contemporaries like ChatGPT are filled and fueled with the internal biases of their creators. The creative process is all about creating things that represent you or people like you. Using Bard for our creative endeavors will only result in an output shaped by many people other than you. Those who go it alone will be rewarded for their creativity.

3. There will be nothing original about Bard AI’s Content

Creativity is all about originality. Bard will only be able to rehash information it has been fed or finds on the web. Originality will be in shorter and shorter supply as AI grows and grows into everyday life. And we’ll turn more and more to our own ability to think for ourselves to truly innovate. As the old quote goes, “It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation.”
